Just had my 20hr service on my Suzi DF80HP
For information to anyone curious about service charges
$339
Includes oil filter, 5L oil, gearbox oil, grease and 2.4hr labor
Regards
shane
(agro)sounds like it was serviced in Gladstone, i paid the same service for my 80 suzy. I just can't understand why it cost's an arm & leg for an outboard service when i only paid $160 for a 5000k service on the wife's new subaru!!!(agro)(agro)(agro)
2.5 hrs labour ?? for what changing the oil and greasing a few nipples!
Not right imo, i would think a experienced mechanic could do that in 1 hr easy!
Ive decided that all basic serving is going to get done by myself, will chuck it in every few hundered hrs to get a once over from the mechanic!

How about $550 for my 140 suzuki and $450 for my brothers 50 Suzuki. Plugs , oil, impellor with a bit of grease and a visual check of everything. I will be doing my own from now. Airlie beach prices can be a bit harsh sometimes.
$800 for a 4cyl service here, already saved myself $5000 by doing it myself.

Mate, the 100 hr service on 50 hp was approx $455..not bad for a couple hours work by a dealer.
Far be it from me to defend those blood suckers, but I think you might be surprised at the (even trade) prices for some of those little bits. Impellors are routinely $70+ for large motors, filters are 2 or 3 times the price of similar sized car ones. Gear-box oil ain't cheap. Even plugs are as much as $20 each on some big Suzukis.
The routine charge for labour is around $75-80 per hour.
We do most of our servicing ourselves on mainly small motors. I buy parts at trade plus 10%, and I pay bugger all to the guy who does it. I use motor oil not specialist marine oil and I'm still surprised after 8 years how much it costs me to stop motors breaking down and producing disappointed customers. The problem lies in the rip-off prices for parts from the Big Four. Eg an oil filter from Mr Yamaha costs me about $20. The identical oil filter from a motor spares place is $4.50. Why don't I use the cheapie one? Cos Mr Yamaha cunningly put a different thread on his one!
I know a lot of boat dealers - none of them are driving BMW's (although I can't speak for the ones in Lemon Tree Passage.)

the Mrs may drive one maybe a 335i with the twin turbo 6 cylinder or perhaps a 4 door M3 with the 5l V8 mmmm, he foolishly drives a Nissan Patrol but. Until the Etec is out of warranty the local dealer will be servicing mine then i'll get busy and see what i can break!
I think the high cost of boat servicing, parts, optional extras etc is one of the main reasons many people do not become long term boat owners. Which in the end causes great damage to the industry.

Welcome aboard Peter.2thumbsup Where are you located mate? I agree with you about the high cost of boating, but just can't stay away.
To be without a boat would make me fell like I've had a leg or arm amputated, so the cost is not a consideration for me atm. It's a way of life for me and the family, and a great way to spend time outdoors with my kids, having fun and occasionally catching a feed. I can't put a price on the looks on their faces when they are covered in mud, running around on a sandbar you can't access without a boat, helping me get prawns out of the cast net, or catching a little one.2thumbsup

B O A T is an acronym for:
Bring Out Another Thousand!!!!!!!!!!
But yes it is worth it - we know where the Orphan is on the weekends!!!!!!
The other definition that's been around for a while is that a boat is a hole in the water, surrounded by plastic/glass/wood, into which you pour money.
Miss Jane, we have to start another pogrom to improve the spilling round here. I'll take Poly, you exterminate all the others.
