Hi all,
My RCC 4.8m has Telflex steering. from the start its always very heavy turning left, usually need two hands, although in some trim/speed zones it be much lighter. I took it back to dealer and he said thats Telfex steering on RCC. Normally they recommend hydraulic steering on these models, however this was no raised when I bought the boat and catalogue does not list as option. Also I've had Telfex before and no issues.

However this stiffness is beyond reasonable and my wife doesn't like driving for extensive periods.

Polycraft have agreed to supply Hydraulic steering at reduced cost of $770 exchange. For this price I'm happy and have booked in. Unfortuately the 2010 PC catalogue still doesn't relfect this issue or option on the RCC which is apparently well known due to tighter bends on RCC.

So anyone thinking of buying a RCC 4.8m , ASK for hydraulic steering up front and save your time.

Regards
Shane

Great advice Shane.

Even on my 4.55 with the 50 on the back the cable steering is woeful. Very heavy but at least I can tell when it is trimmed correctly as I can then turn the wheel..

I have noticed that as the boat ages, the steering is getting harder.

With the low position of the wheel, and me standing when coming into a pontoon or along side a vessel, its very hard to look like ya know what you are doing when you cant spin the wheel fast enough....(agro)

Good Point Mate, as the price of hydraulic steering packages comes down I would like to see all boats operating with hydraulic steering?
Cost wise its not that big of a deal when purchasing new!
Up grade an existing teleflex and the cost is still not that great, when you consider the benefits?

You wont believe the difference when fitted, no more sore arms, no more drifting off line, let go off the wheel and it sits dead straight!

Good luck with your Brumby, one of the best hulls Polycraft have on the water!(whistle)
