  • MinnKota turning motor fix

Its the 2nd time my Minnkota has had issues.

Last time was new control board and a $600 BLA fix.

This time its the turning motor, tested foot panel and control board with multi-meter. Then ran the turning motor direct to a spare battery with no movement.

You can get a new one from the US for $25USD, as BLA will not sell parts directly.

Has anyone attempted this repair before? Plenty of Youtube instructions

over time the steering bearings go and finally seize. some times you can get them moving in the short term with WD40 but more often then not they need replacing. You will probably find that the steering motor itself is actually ok. There is a bloke in north bris with a business called Minn Repairs who is worth a chat too. Look him up on Facebook or if you don't have it let me know and I will grab his number if you want. He is way cheaper than BLA and he is a Authorised minnkota repairer.
    Just wingin it.

        Hey Lads,

finally got a spare weekend to pull my leccy motor apart to confirm if bearings seized or electric turning motor at fault.

Well it was easy enough to pull apart but the motor is toast as you can see in the pic. Ordered new one from Northland Marine in US for $50USD delivered. Cheaper than a BLA repair. Should arrive this week.

Been off the water for 6 weeks now.

So part came from US of Aye in 8 days.
Fitted and working. Bit tricky putting back together at the shaft seal has a knotch in it. Gave the new elect turning motor a coat of fish oil to repel water.

All up about 3 hrs spent in total.

pic of diagram and motor fitting.

          Back in the game now.
