I bought my Poly Cuddy Cabin new in 2003 and have had a ball with it but like a lot of Poly owners I find it very heavy on the tow ball . I have noticed that some owners have moved their trailer axle forward to compensate this but is there any correct formula for the movement of the axle , such as how many millimetres foward etc etc.
The boat is a 4.55 cc and the trailer is a Brooker 14.6 tilt any advise on this matter would be greatly appreciated |

Hi,
I actually asked this question some time ago of my local dealer, "what is the correct tongue weight "? They quoted 40kg to me at the time for my 4.55. The best rule of thumb is 7-10 % of the total weight of your rig. Try moving your boat back/forward on the trailer first, you may find you don't need to move the axel forward. Jason |

Hi bugger
I have always been told that the magic number is 10% of the total weight of the BMT on the ball. ei my 5.3 cuddy weighs in about 1500Kg so I need about 150Kgs on the ball. I dont know what a 4.55 weighs but once you have that weight its move the axle forward & measure the weight on the jockey wheel with the bathroom scales until its about the 10% number.

couldn't you move the boat backwards on the trailer a bit at a time until you have the 10% on the ball, measure that distance then move the axle forward that amount? might be quicker that's all.

Hi
Sheebaridgesback's idea on moving the boat and Pirate Pete's 10% weight sounds good. You can easily do that in the back yard. When you have the boat in the correct position, move the winch post to the boat. Hope that sound easier than moving axles. Cheers |

You can move the boat on the slides on the trailer and if it is only a short distance, simply undo the bolts holding the winch post and move it to the new boat position.
If it is a larger distance, then consider moving the actual axle.

G'day Guys
Now "our" poly's are just like the song says! ,,,,,"fat bottomed girls make this rockin World go 'round" and in doing so should only require a short distance of movement rearward to "balance" the trailer. Different models have different characteristics, but all will respond favorable to a short tug rearward! Most of the poly designed trailer have ample length left hanging out at the rear to make this a simple fix! But remember dont take it too far, cause you dont want the fat bottomed girl to wiggle at the wrong moment, do you? Cheers!

Hi guys sorry about the long delay in responding to all your good advise, but the gremlins of Old Telstra wiring and corrosion I was left without any phone and Internet for 6 days hence the delay in response. I am glad that I joined this club because of all the good advise and humour that is in this forum. I will try the movement of the boat back a little first and adjust accordingly.
Cheers and good boating |

"I guess we are a club Dave...time for stickers perhaps?"
Hows about it Dave, maybe some enterprising individual could come up with a members pack: Stickers.... stubbie coolers.... hats??? T-shirts!!!! For a nominal fee of course... |

That has come up a fer times & we did have a sign writer somewhere who made some up for some members. I dont think he managed the move from the old site when the data base fell over.
